AROUND 100 jobs are to go at IBM in the UK and Ireland.

The jobs are believed to be lost within the technology giant’s strategic outsourcing delivery services.

IBM’s headquarters is in North Harbour, Portsmouth, but jobs are to be lost across all the firm’s sites in the UK.

In a statement, a spokesman for IBM said: ‘Change is constant in our industry and transformation is a permanent feature of our business model.

‘Consequently, some level of workforce remix is an ongoing part of our business.

‘Given the competitive nature of our business, we do not publicly discuss the details of our staffing plans.’

A consultation process is now underway to manage the redundancies.

IBM’s UK outsourcing team, which is part of IBM Global Technology Services, provides services for the telecoms, financial and other sectors which can’t do it in-house.

The Unite union has previously fought redundancies at IBM but was not available to comment when approached by The News.
