Joy for Gosport and Fareham volunteer rescuers as WI group donates more than £1,500

VOLUNTEER coastal rescuers have been boosted by a donation of more than £1,500.

The crew of the Gosport and Fareham Inshore Rescue Service (Gafirs) has thanked the Stoke Road Sisters for handing over a cheque for £1,719.78.

Members of the Gosport Women's Institute branch had been fundraising for the team for the past year and presented the money at a ceremony on Wednesday.

A spokesperson for Gafirs '“ manned by unpaid volunteers 24 hours-a-day '“ said on Twitter: '˜A massive thank you to the Gosport Stoke Road WI for raising a whopping £1719.98 for us in a year of amazing fundraising. The money will go directly to saving lives in the Solent.'
