The event, on Sunday, February 12, was organised by previous We Can Do It T-shirt winner Ellie Randall.

The 28-year-old, from Copnor, works at QA Hospital in Cosham as a health care assistant but in her spare time she works hard to raise money for the Motor Neurone Disease Association.

Ellie was inspired to hold the Tea4MND events after her uncle, a well-known local footballer and sportsman, Kim Manns died from the disease aged 61 in March 2015.

Kim, who played for Waterlooville FC for more than 20 years and had a spell at Fratton Park in 1972, started the fundraising campaign after he was diagnosed in 2012.

And Ellie said she was determined to continue the campaign and to continue Kim’s legacy.

Last year, Tea4MND raised £544 and with the help of the public and their generous donations, this year’s event raised £681.

Companies such as Tesco and Makro helped by donating cakes, sugar, milk and teabags.

Ellie said the turnout for the fundraiser, which saw about 50 people attend the afternoon at Portsmouth FC’s home ground, was beyond her expectations

She said: ‘It was absolutely brilliant, I couldn’t have asked for more.’

More than 20 people in the Portsmouth area are involved in the charity Tea4MND.

Brenda Skerratt, from Buckland, a supporter of the charity who was at the event, said: ‘It went really well. Ellie is amazing, she does everything, she’s absolutely brilliant.

‘She is a great girl and works really hard.’

Every week Ellie does a sponsored run in support of the MND Association in honour of her uncle.

The MND Association helps support people with the progressive disease.
