NIMBLE-FINGERED knitters in Copnor are busy creating bunting for a church summer fayre taking place this weekend.

In the past few months more than 100 multi-coloured knitted triangles have been created by members of St Cuthbert’s Church, in Lichfield Road.

The initiative was the brainchild of friends Denise Minter and Eileen Thorpe, both of Stride Avenue, Copnor, who wanted to put their shared love of knitting to good use.

Denise said: ‘We wanted to do something a bit different to help promote our church fayre.

‘We read an article in a magazine about a team of women who had knitted bunting for their church and we thought ‘we could do that’.

‘We’ve spent countless hours knitting, but it’s been a labour of love and we’re looking forward to seeing it up now.’

The fayre will be held on Saturday, June 16, from 12.30pm to 4pm, with stalls, sideshows, children’s activities and refreshments.

All money raised will go towards the church’s running costs.
