VOLUNTEERS are working to boost a sense of community in their area through a series of awareness events.

The Lee-on-the-Solent Residents’ Association holds a Community Boost day at the Methodist Church Hall in High Street every month.

It is organised to help residents find out what services are available to them from the council and emergency services.

The group’s fundraiser, 66-year-old Ray Harding, said: ‘It went very well.

‘It is nice for people to have somewhere they can go to be social.

‘Everybody in Lee-on-the-Solent makes it a very community-focused place to live.

‘We also hope to help increase footfall in the high street when we hold these events.

‘And it is good for charities like the RSPCA to come down to boost their profile and do some fundraising of their own.’

The residents’ association recently raised enough cash to donate computers and laptops to the Focus Youth Centre.
