Chief Petty Officer Paul Whitaker, 54, is one of 25,000 cyclists tackling the Prudential Ride London-Surrey 100, on Sunday, July 31. CPO Whitaker, who is the Divisional Officer at HMS Sultan’s Defence College of Technical Training’s Defence School of Marine Engineering, is doing the ride in aid of Ovarian Cancer Action.

He has been inspired by his wife Cheryl who completed a similar night-time version last year. ‘I have completed weekly training rides and feel I am now ready to pedal this old submariner on my bike round the 100-mile course,’ he said.

The ride starts at Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park and will see him race to Surrey before heading back to finish at The Mall.
