Leftfield are going to get the South Central Festival party started

Legendary dance act Leftfield are set to get the party started as the latest big name announced to play the South Central Festival.

Led by Neil Barnes, they are renowned for playing an important part in the growth of electronic dance music.

Their 1995 debut album Leftism is regarded as a seminal work in the dance music genre and was voted in the Top 10 greatest albums of all time by readers of Q Magazine.

Leftfield were once described by Mixmag as 'the single most influential production team working in British dance music'.

Their set at South Central, which takes place on May bank holiday weekend at the King George V Playing Fields in Cosham, is a rare UK festival appearance.

Others just announced are drum and bass act Kings of the Rollers,Radio 1 DJ Mistajam and Elderbrook, a British musician, songwriter and producer.

They join an exciting and eclectic line-up that includes:

Pop icon Boy George, with a full live band in a UK festival exclusive show that will include solo material alongside Culture Club’s greatest hits

Rap music pioneer and Run DMC frontman Rev Run

Singer, songwriter and record producer Craig David

Jamaican rapper Sean Paul

Internationally-renowned producer Armand Van Helden

Chart-topping singer-songwriter and producer Example

Veteran festival DJ Jaguar Skills

TV comedy legend Paul Chuckle

Rock indie band The Hunna

Fitness guru Mr Motivator, who will be hosting a live workout session

Spandau Ballet’s Martin Kemp, who will be getting behind the decks for a special ‘80s Gold DJ set

South Central is a new boutique festival with immersive stages including Hotel Disco, Craft Beer Beach Bar, Gin Festival, a huge VIP area, street food market and helter skelter.

Organisers promise it will be ‘full of wow moments, colour and creativity’.

Tickets for South Central Festival on May 25 and 26, which is for over-18s only, are available at southcentral.net. Current prices are £39.50 for day tickets, weekend tickets from £69.50, VIP day tickets from £64.50 and VIP weekend tickets from £99. Camping is from £40.
