ORGANISERS of tomorrow’s Leigh Park carnival have called off the event because there is a forecast for heavy rain.

The annual carnival, which is a culmination of the eight-day long Leigh Park Festival, was due to take place at midday on Stockheath Common.

But Faith Ponsonby, treasurer of the Leigh Park Festival Committee, said an agonising decision has been made to call off the carnival.

She said: ‘It was an agonising decision to make and it is very disappointing.

‘However the forecast is so bad that we have to cancel it.

‘We don’t want people battling winds and heavy rains, while stall holders getting soaked.

‘However we would like to appeal to more help to organise next year’s event.

‘We want it to go on for nine days next year and would love some help.’
