Lengthy train delays for Portsmouth passengers

PASSENGERS in Portsmouth and Southampton can expect lengthy delays today due to strikes and engineering work.

South Western Railway services between Portsmouth and London, and Southampton and Portsmouth will be affected.

Due to industrial action a reduced service will run for the Portsmouth to London Wateroo route with two trains an hour scheduled.

The London Waterloo to Haslemere trains will not run, and stopping services will call additionally at Milford and Witley in both directions.

Passengers are also warned that fast services (calling at Woking, Guildford, Haslemere, Petersfield, Havant, Fratton, Portsmouth & Southsea and Portsmouth Harbour in each direction) will not run in the early morning or late evening.

It is thought the strike will be over at midnight tonight, with normal services resuming tomorrow.

Trains between Portsmouth and Southampton Central will not run because of planned engineering work.Replacement bus services will operate between Fareham and Southampton Central with trains running hourly between Fareham and Portsmouth.

Works will continue tomorrow, but are planned to be completed by Monday.

On their website South Western Rail apologised for the delays. They said: '˜We and our partners at Network Rail are always working hard to maintain and improve the rail network.

'˜We try to keep disruption to a minimum by carrying out engineering works at the weekend or over holiday periods where we can, but this isn't always possible.'

The Portsmouth to Eastleigh service will also be affected with hourly trains only.
