WORK to create an archive documenting the lives of Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender/Transsexual plus (LGBT+) residents in Hampshire is ready to be handed over to a records office.

Y Services, backed by Heritage Lottery funding, has been recording and comparing the experiences of LGBT+ people of different generations in Hampshire. At a ceremony later this month the interviews will be handed over for storage at Winchester Records Office.

The event, planned for Monday, February 26 from 6.30-8.30pm, will be a celebration of LGBT+ History Month.

Y Services LGBT+ youth worker Dawn Tracy said: ‘It’s a really exciting project and opportunity for the LGBT+ young people we support.

‘These shared stories have helped today’s LGBT+ young people understand that some challenges and problems are not new.

‘This creative project has provided our young people with a sense of validation and developed skills to deal with their own challenges.’

Anyone interested in getting involved with the project can call Dawn on 07585 115022.
