LIFEBOAT volunteers were called out to three yachts that got stuck at sea over the weekend.

The first call was to East Winner – a tidal sandbank near the entrance to Langstone harbour, at around 10.45am yesterday.

The Portsmouth RNLI sent out a lifeboat to help pull the yacht free. While on-scene the lifeboat crew saw a second vessel, a power boat, hit the East Winner.

Crews requested the Portsmouth Inshore Lifeboat (PIL) launch and help with the rescue.

This time efforts to pull the boat free failed, so the owner was brought back to safety.

The vessel will be picked up at a later date.

Shortly after this incident the PIL was called again to help free another yacht.

Crews were able to pull the vessel back into open water.

No-one was injured in the incidents.
