CREWS searched the Solent last night after it was reported a man was seen in the water.

The alarm was raised around 8pm last night when a member of the public called Solent Coastguard after failing to see a man return from the water near Ryde pier, in the Isle of Wight.

Three police cars and two lifeboats – Norma T and Alexander Coutanche – searched for the missing person.

The search was called off at 9.45pm as there was no confirmation a man was missing or had entered the water.
