A SEARCH was carried out after fears a person was missing in the Solent.

The Gosport and Fareham Inshore Rescue Service (Gafirs) was paged by the Coastguard shortly after 11pm on Saturday.

The call came in as a report of a possible person in the water by Haslar Creek, in Gosport, after a single person life raft was discovered on the shoreline.

Gafirs launched lifeboats from Gosport and searched using thermal imaging cameras until 12.45am, but were stood down when they could not find anyone.
