CAMPAIGNS have been calling on people to see the individual behind the learning disability.

Commercials and adverts have been showing the importance of inclusion and are trying to change the way people view others, including those with Down syndrome.

Several retailers including M&S, Next, Boden and Kinder are now using children with Down syndrome in their advertising campaigns.

Meanwhile, actors with Down syndrome are now playing characters in major television shows such as the soap Coronation Street.

Individuals are becoming role models, including Simon Beresford who, in 2007, became the first person with Down syndrome to complete the London Marathon. He has finished eight more since.
