The on-loan QPR winger scored the fourth goal in the Blues' 4-0 first-round win against the Magpies.

It took his goal tally for Kenny Jackett's side to two, after netting in the Checkatrade Trophy victory over Gillingham in September.

That game represents Wheeler's last start for the Blues, with seven of his nine Pompey appearances coming as a substitute.

His effort against the Magpies arrived after replacing fellow goalscorer Jamal Lowe on 63 minutes.

That lack of game time means the Fratton faithful are yet to see him at his best.

But Wheeler is hoping his latest goal can kick-start his Pompey career.
