Long may they reign '“ the cats and dogs of warships

This picture was originally sent to The News in 2006 and it fits perfectly with my current theme of animals adopted by ships of the Royal Navy.

Taken at HMS St Vincent, Gosport, about 1910, we see some of the Royal Marines who served in HMS Good Hope which was sunk at the battle of Coronel off the Falkland Islands in 1914.

Sent in by Mrs Phyllis Brooks (née Dwyer), of Alverstoke, it shows her late father Ernest Joseph in the centre with the cat.
