A MAJOR road into Havant was closed for almost three hours and a man was seriously injured following a serious accident.
There were tailbacks stretching into the town centre, towards Hayling Island and along the A27 following the three vehicle collision close to Langstone roundabout on the A27, just before 10am yesterday.
It involved a lorry and two cars.
Firefighters from Havant, Cosham and Eastleigh were sent to the accident to cut one of the male car drivers from his vehicle.
He was taken to hospital by paramedics suffering from neck and back injuries.
Another driver was also injured, but not seriously.
Watch manager Tim Burgess, from Havant station, said: ‘From what we can make out, the lorry hit the back of a car and then another car went into the back of the lorry.
‘We cut an older gentleman out of his TVR. He was taken to hospital with serious injuries to his back and neck.
‘It took about an hour because it was quite complicated. It always is with spinal injuries. We have to be careful.’
Police confirmed one person was taken to Queen Alexandra Hospital, Cosham and the road reopened at 12.40pm.
