A murder probe has been launched after a man was found stabbed to death.

The 45-year-old was discovered with stab wounds at 12.20am on Boxing Day at a plant nursery in Second Avenue, off Almodington Lane, between Chichester and Bracklesham.

A 53-year old Romanian has been arrested on suspicion of murder and was yesterday in custody.

Detective Chief Inspector Nick Sloan from Sussex Police Major Crime Branch said: 'A thorough investigation is under way into the circumstances surrounding the death of this man. A post-mortem examination is still to take place and the man has yet to be formally identified as we are very much in the early stages of the investigation.

'This is an isolated incident in a quiet rural location and we are keen to speak to anyone who was out and about in the Bracklesham Bay and Birdham areas, not far from Selsey, to see if they spotted anything suspicious.'

It is believed that the victim, who is also Romanian, had been staying at the site and died shortly before the alarm was raised.

Scenes of crime officers have been searching the local area looking for the murder weapon and house to house enquiries are being conducted.
