A MAN has been detained by police in connection with a spate of car fires last night.

Firefighters were called to four separate vehicle blazes in Emsworth and Havant within a period of 34 minutes.

They believe all fires were deliberate and possibly linked.

One crew from Emsworth was called to River Street, Westbourne, at midnight to douse a car blaze, while another crew from Havant was called simultaneously to a separate fire also on River Street.

Half a hour later a second crew from Havant was called to another car found ablaze on Highlawn Way, in the town.

And only four minutes after that, at 12.34am, one crew from Havant was called to a minibus which was on fire on Brockenhurst Avenue, Havant.

In each incident the vehicles were all parked on the side of the road and had not been driven for a while.

Firefighters believe they saw the same car at each of the incidents.

Police arrested one man in the Havant area in connection with seven separate incidents of arson to vehicles at 12.40am. He has been detained at Chichester police station.
