RESCUERS pulled a man with learning disabilities out of a lift shaft at a day care centre after he fell in.

The man, in his 50s, was taken to Queen Alexandra Hospital with minor injuries after he fell one floor down the shaft.

The doors had developed a fault and opened before the lift had reached the floor, and he stepped into the shaft.

Firefighters, paramedics and police were called to the man’s aid at Fareham Day Services, in Bath Lane, just after 11.30am yesterday.

The manager of the day centre, run by Hampshire County Council, refused to comment.
