POLICE talked a man down from sitting on top of a lion statue.

The man, in his 40s, was reported to the emergency services at 3pm yesterday.

He was straddling the statue, with a 30ft drop to one side, in Guildhall Square, Portsmouth.

Police closed the area to prevent crowds gathering while they talked to him.

After discussions, he came down from the statute and was unhurt. The area was opened again by 4pm.
