SOLENT Coastguard helped to rescue a man after he fell into the sea from a yacht.

Coastguards received a Mayday call from the sailing yacht Bridailly at 3.34pm today, which was broadcast in French.

One of the two French crew had fallen overboard off the Needles, Isle of Wight. He had hit his head, but was fortunately wearing a lifejacket which was connected to a lifeline.

The coastguard helicopter and RNLI also assisted in the rescue.
