A MAN was rescued from a lift by firefighters.

A crew from Southsea station went to aid the man who was stuck in the lift in Hippodrome House, Guildhall Walk, Portsmouth.

Firefighters had to go into the lift shaft to release the door mechanism.

It took a while to open the door as it was jammed.

They were called at 7pm last night and had him out by 7.30pm. It happened after people had been using the lift to move furniture.
