FRIENDS and family members will pay tribute to much-loved former journalist Maggie Beddoes at a memorial service.

Ms Beddoes died of ovarian cancer on June 9 aged 77.

She had a successful career at The News and lived in Gosport and Portchester for most of her life.

Her outgoing personality won her many friends, and she had a record of taking young News reporters who moved to the area from across the country under her wing.

Former colleagues said she was compassionate and kind, tireless in her pursuit of truth and well-respected in her specialist field of local politics.

Ms Beddoes’ daughter, Ellie Basham, is organising the memorial.

Mrs Basham, who lives in Gloucestershire, is looking for people who knew her mother who may be interested in saying a few words in tribute to her at the event.

She asked anyone interested to get in touch by e-mail

The service will be at the Holy Trinity Church in Gosport on Friday, September 19 at 11am.
