Memories of music era

Have your say

SPIKED green hair and guitar smashing – memories of the era of punk rock are being celebrated in a new exhibition.

The display has been put together by Nigel Brown, who is the operations manager at The Spring Arts and Heritage Centre in East Street, Havant.

There is a fascinating range of artefacts that evoke the impact and legacy of punk.

Kate Saunders, heritage officer at The Spring, said: ‘The term “punk” was originally used to describe the US garage musicians of the 1960s.

‘Bands like the Sonics were starting up and playing gigs with no musical or vocal instruction, and often limited skill. Because they did not know the rules of music, they were able to break them.

‘Punk arrived in the UK with the Sex Pistols.’

The free exhibition runs until April 28.
