FIFTY years of Chichester Harbour being a world-class beauty spot has been marked with the publication of a free guide.

In 1964 the harbour, which stretches from Hayling Island to West Wittering, was designated as an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and was afforded extra protection.

A celebratory issue of Chichester Harbour News and Guide is now available.

Pieter Montyn, chairman of Chichester Harbour Conservancy said: ‘I’m sure local people and visitors alike will enjoy reading this issue of the Harbour News. I particularly enjoyed Geoffrey Palmer’s trip down memory lane to a sailing adventure he had as a boy in the 1950s and Janet McMeekin’s article on learning to kayak in Chichester Harbour.’

Siún Cranny, Conservancy director, said it was an ‘important milestone’. The booklet can be picked up from the harbour office in Emsworth and local libraries.
