BUS passengers in Portsmouth can buy tickets using their smartphone from Monday.

FirstBus is launching an app whereby customers with iPhones or phones using the Android operating system can download it from the App store or Google Play.

Customers using the app for the first time will need to enter their payment details including a secure PIN, but all purchases can be made just before boarding the bus and by showing the driver the ticket on their phone.

Commenting on the new mTicketing system, Matthew Callow, from First Hampshire said: ‘We are one of the first of the first divisions to give customers the opportunity of using their mobile phones as bus tickets.’
