Firefighters were able to put out the fire using a high-pressure hose reel. However, both bikes were completely destroyed by the time the blaze was put out.

The fire also caused substantial damage to a campervan which was parked next to the mopeds.

The campervan contained several gas cylinders, but firefighters were able to put out the fire before they ignited.

The mopeds, which were both white, were a Peugeot Speedfight, and a KSR Moto Code.

Gillian Tinling says that she saw the burning bikes from her home on the other side of St Andrews Road.

She said: ‘It’s a very strange incident because it’s really not the sort of thing that you would expect to happen on our road.

‘It could have been a lot worse, but it’s certainly given me food for thought about installing CCTV on my property.’

Hampshire Constabulary are currently investigating the incident, and have appealed for witnesses.

Anyone with any information relating to the incident have been advised to contact police on 101, quoting crime reference number 44160419211.
