More delays to return of Hayling ferry

THE ongoing saga of the Hayling Ferry will continue for at least another week.

The ferry service, which runs between Hayling and Eastney, has not run for almost six weeks while both the boats are in for repair.

Although work on the 65-seater Pride of Hayling is now complete, it has to be inspected by the Maritime and Coastguard Agency before it can go back on the water. And that has been delayed – again.

Tina Edwards, from the Hayling Ferry Company, said in a statement that it was the fault of the boat yard for not having it ready when the inspectors arrived.

She added: ‘Kindly the MCA said they won’t charge us the £180 for their time wasted and share our frustration. We really expected to have the vessel passed today.’

Miss Edwards went on, ‘Please accept our sincere apologies.

‘We are as frustrated as anyone.

‘With the loss of revenue, added to the substantial repair bills and lack of financial support from the councils, it will be a long hard winter but we will survive.

‘This is our family business and always will be.

‘We really appreciate all the support we have had.’
