A SCHEME to combat social isolation is appealing for more men to join.

Brendoncare Club Hampshire runs more than 50 volunteer-led friendship and activity clubs across the county for vulnerable older people in a bid to help tackle social exclusion.

Its group, which meets from 11am to 12.30pm on Mondays at the Good Companion pub in Eastern Road, Milton, is hoping to attract more men.

Its members take part in a range of activities including cards, quizzes, games and speakers.

They pay a £1 weekly contribution to help organisers fund activities.

NHS Portsmouth Clinical Commissioning Group supported the project with an £840 grant to pay a support worker to develop and set up the club, which started last January.

Of the 25 older people who attend – 17 of them regularly – only two are men.

Anyone interested in finding out more, or joining the group can contact Norma Burchett by calling 01962 857099.
