A motorcyclist is understood to have sustained serious injuries in a collision with a car on the Portfield Roundabout in Chichester this morning.

The crash happened at around 7.45am and police warned that there would be delays along the A27 and further road closures until at least 11.40am.

A Sussex Police statement, issued at 9.40am said: “Drivers are being asked to avoid the A27 at its junction with the A285 Portfield Way, Chichester, for at least the next two hours while emergency services are dealing with a crash between a car and a motorcycle.

“It was reported at around 7.45am on Wednesday, December 23, and has led to several roads feeding into the Portfield roundabout east of the city centre being closed.

“The motorcyclist is reported to have sustained serious injuries.”

Sergeant Neil Cox, of the road policing unit, added: “Unfortunately the road closures are likely to be in place for at least a couple of hours.

“We’d advise drivers to avoid the area and seek alternative routes, as traffic delays are building.”
