MP fears increasing danger from flooding

FAREHAM MP Suella Fernandes has highlighted flooding danger as the government announces extra funds.

The latest data from the Environment Agency revealed that 289 homes in Fareham are at risk of flooding. Three flood defence projects are under development in the area, and Miss Fernandes is pressing ministers to support them.

Over the next six years the government will be spending £2.3bn in flood defences,

Miss Fernandes said: ‘It’s hard to overstate the economic and human cost of flooding. It doesn’t just damage property, it ruins lives.

‘As the severity and frequency of flood events increases with climate change, and as more homes are built, so the number of people in Fareham at risk will also rise.

‘The government has put a lot of resources into tackling flooding and I’m pleased there are a number of projects lined up to improve our defences.

‘I’ll be consulting closely with ministers and authorities concerned to support them in their efforts to make sure homes in Fareham continue to get the protection they need.’
