Mum finally gives '˜complete' resting place to her baby

Lucy Maidens’ first child Brandon Davis was born stillborn at 21 weeks in 2007.

She was unable to afford a headstone at the time and, having had two more children, money became even tighter.

Following a public plea for help last year, complete stranger Jasmine Creed stepped in and arranged fundraising activities to raise the £600 needed. Her intervention meant the black marble headstone was able to be put in place in Waterlooville cemetery last month. Lucy, 29, and Jasmine, 24, have since become firm friends. Lucy, of Bramdean Drive, Leigh Park, said: ‘For a long time I felt like I had failed Brandon because I couldn’t pay for a headstone myself. ‘It was the one thing I felt needed to be done. Now it is in place I feel so much better. ‘It’s a massive weight lifted off my mind, knowing that his resting place is complete. ‘Brandon has finally got what he deserves.’Lucy said she can hardly believe how kind people have bee, particularly Jasmine. ‘I’m so grateful to her’, she said. ‘I didn’t think there were people out there who would do that to help a total stranger.‘To everyone who has donated and been so generous, thank you.’Jasmine managed to gather support for the cause and organised a sponsored walk with Lucy, from Havant to Hayling Island. She even managed to persuade her brother-in-law to shave his head. Jasmine, a mum-of-four, said: ‘I felt really proud to have been able to help Lucy. ‘And I was amazed at how generous people were. ‘When we were doing the sponsored walk, people would drive past, turn around and throw £20 notes in the bucket. That is a lot of money. ‘Brandon’s grave is no longer just a patch of grass. ‘I’m so glad I’ve got Lucy as a friend, and others along the way.’
