PORTSMOUTH Music Hub has been awarded a national accolade for its song books.

The Hub was given the award for Best Print Resource at the Music Teacher Awards for Excellence, in London.

The award recognised the Hub’s song books Singathlon – songs about sport and sporting values, Sing Out Pompey! – a celebration of the city through song and Choral Reef – songs about sea creatures.

Sue Beckett, director of Portsmouth Music Hub, said: ‘The Hub has a very talented team of songwriters. This award is a fantastic testament to their skills and commitment to children’s singing.

‘Thousands of children across the UK have performed songs from these song books and it is very exciting that the high quality of the songs has been recognised.’

Councillor Rob Wood, cabinet member for children, said: ‘I commend the Hub for its excellent work and the contribution its staff is making to providing children in Portsmouth with topical and engaging songs that teach them about our city and the world around us.’
