ROYAL Navy bomb disposal experts from Portsmouth were called out to what was believed at first to be an unexploded bomb.

Beachgoers discovered the metal cartridges on busy Ventnor beach, on the Isle of Wight, early yesterday morning.

The Coastguard investigated and closed off the beach while they waited for the navy’s Southern Diving Unit to arrive from Portsmouth.

They confirmed by early evening it was just a piece of metal.
