A MULTI-million pound bus route going through Fareham and Gosport will be completed early next year, says Hampshire County Council.

Bosses say work diverting the gas and water utilities on the disused railway needed to construct the dedicated busway was completed over the summer.

No official date has been set for it to be opened, but Hampshire transport chief, Councillor Mel Kendal, said it would be early new year.

He said: ‘Completing this work has enabled us to focus on concluding the construction of the busway so that it will be available for use early next year.’

Extensive planting and acoustic fencing at Cams Alder has also been completed, the bridge at Palmerston Road and Newgate Lane has been finished and the temporary embankment used during construction has been removed.

Palmerston Drive is expected to reopen at the end of next month.

Newgate Lane will see new surfacing once new drainage has been installed later this month, and the council said raising the surface of the Wych Lane junction would begin shortly.
