A NEW drop-in centre could soon open at a shopping centre in Havant.

Portsdown Community Church, which has been on the first floor of the Meridian Centre, has applied to convert part of its premises into a drop-in centre, offering advice to the elderly and young people.

Part of the premises is a shop, selling books, music and cards.

But church officials said more people are now buying these items over the internet and it would be more useful to create a drop-in centre.

They said they wanted the facility to help the ‘lonely and vulnerable’ in the area.
