A new money advice service has recently been launched to help people concerned about their finances.

DebtAdvice@Buckland is a free debt counselling and support project staffed by trained volunteers at Buckland United Reformed Church on Kingston Road.

Cliff Bembridge, the founder and honorary manager of the service, wanted to offer long-term support to help people deal with existing debt and then encourage them in long-term budgeting.

Jim McGregor, one of the service’s trained volunteers, said: ‘Debt is one of the most serious issues within our community.

‘Not only does unmanageable debt have an impact on quality of life, but it can even lead to serious ill health and even suicide.

‘Our role is to try and help people to come up with an agreed, workable solution out of this.’
