UPGRADING village halls and traffic calming schemes are among the initiatives to benefit from a £315,000 windfall raised by building new homes.

Communities in the Chichester district that have taken new developments have received a share of almost £315,000 under the government’s New Homes Bonus Scheme.

Almost £20,000 has been given to Chidham and Hambrook Parish Council for a new terrace to the village hall.

More than £23,000 has been given to Fishbourne Parish Council for a new church hall.

More than £3,000 will be awarded to Westbourne for traffic calming measures.

And Funtington Parish Council has been given £12,000 for a new pavilion.

Councillor Tony Dignum, in charge of finance at Chichester District Council, says: ‘We’re delighted that this funding will be used in so many ways. As a council we have endeavoured to protect this money for the benefit of those communities that have taken new development.’
