A NEW litter-picking team has been formed after concerns were raised over the amount of rubbish in Portsmouth.

Pompey Litter Pickers was launched by Flick Drummond and other Conservative volunteers.

They spent over two hours in Southsea picking up litter and Flick hopes that this initiative will spread through the community.

She said: ‘In times of financial austerity, we can’t expect the council to be cleaning in all places all the time.

‘It is up to the community to make a difference in our city.’

The team cleaned up Orchard Park which was the worst area.

Flick added: ‘Orchard Park was the worst place.

‘But one resident from Manners Road said how much better the street looked after we had gone down it.’
