A CHURCH service has been held to celebrate the appointment of a new pastor.

Dan Harman, 28, was officially welcomed by members of the congregation at City Life Church, in Tangier Road, Copnor.

Live music was performed by the church’s worship band at the event, which was attended by Lib Dem councillors Darren Sanders and Lynne Stagg as well as Portsmouth North MP Penny Mordaunt.

Representatives from Portsmouth charity Faith and Football and Express FM also made up the crowd.

Dan, who grew up in Copnor Road, Copnor, will share his pastoral duties at the church with his wife Laura, 28.

The couple were appointed at the helm of church at the beginning of the year by its leadership team.

Dan will wear jeans and a hoodie at the altar rather than conventional robes.

He said: ‘It was so awe-inspiring to see the church brimming over with people of all different backgrounds.

‘We’re excited about being part of making Portsmouth a better place.’
