New principal for oarsome charity

Oarsome Chance Foundation, a charity that works with disadvantaged youngsters, has appointed John Gillard as its new principal. The charity works with local schools and other youth projects building rowing Skiffs (light boats) and offers the opportunity to learn to row.

Oarsome Chance Foundation (OCF) was established in June 2016 and utilises rowing and boat building projects to help promote health and education, combat obesity and enhance personal development and self-esteem.

John is an RYA Yacht Master Instructor and Examiner who has experience of working with schools, youth groups and organisations. He has sailed throughout the world in a wide variety of vessels with all age groups. John will be responsible for the day to day operational running of the charity

John says: ‘it is important that everyone has the opportunity to experience being on and around the sea through sport, sailing and associated marine activities. I very much look forward to working with OCF helping to make a difference to young people’s lives for the betterment of all.’

OCF at present have a base in Portsmouth at the Apex Centre at Park Community School and they are planning to develop another centre in Gosport.
