New railway depot will be celebrated with a fanfare

Hayling's Seaside Railway will throw a special party to celebrate the official opening of its new Eastoke Corner depot.

Volunteers will stage the homecoming event on Sunday, August 6, to mark the transfer of the railway from its old base at Beachlands to its new shed.

The Seaside Railway will team up with Hayling’s BEST community group’s Playing on the Plaza team for the day’s family-friendly festivities.

Among the planned activities will be a display of agricultural and other vintage machinery, models and equipment, on and around the newly rebuilt Eastoke Corner light railway station.

While throughout the afternoon on the nearby seafront Plaza, local musicians and entertainers will be putting on a full programme of free live entertainment.

There will also be stalls and displays in and around the Plaza and new depot areas.

And on both Saturday 5 and Sunday 6, regular passenger trains along the mile-long narrow gauge railway to Beachlands via Mengham Road Halt, will be hauled by the Hampshire Narrow Gauge Railway Society’s 1919 vintage Bagnall steam locomotive, Wendy.

The locomotive will be visiting from its usual home at the Bursledon Brickworks Museum.
