PORTSMOUTH’S young jobseekers can now take part in work experience placements lasting up to eight weeks without it affecting their benefits.

There are 1,310 people aged between 18 and 24 in the city claiming benefit.

The new Government rule aims to help them gain skills to get them into work.

Minister for Employment Chris Grayling said: ‘It is an excellent way for young people to gain practical experience and showcase their talents, which can really give you the edge.’
