The News's 2017 election manifesto

WITH political parties set to release their election manifestos over the coming weeks, we thought we'd release our own.

These are our promises to you during our coverage of the 2017 General Election.

1. YOU DECIDE

We have no axes to grind here and we will not be endorsing a party like many national newspapers. This means we approach stories fairly and is consistent with our stance on the referendum on the European Union and during the 2015 General Election. We will not decide how our area plays out, you will.

2. FACT-CHECKING

With the constant growth of fake news and fear-mongering politics abound, we will weigh up the evidence, scrutinise the claims and unravel any potential spin.

3. SPIKY COMMENTS

We will like to share our opinion on all that happens over the coming weeks through comment pieces. We’ll look to tackle all the issues head on and will not shy from voicing our thoughts.

4. PROMOTE DEMOCRACY

Here are The News, we are keen to support anything that promotes political engagement. We want you to get involved and make sure you are using your voice.

5. BEYOND BREXIT

Talk on this year’s vote has already labelled it as the Brexit Election. While it is an integral issue and we will always look to bring it to the fore, it is not the focus of our coverage. Each party will have broad manifestos, we will explore these in great detail and try and cover as much of what is being discussed by our local politicians.

6. YOUR VOICES

7. LESS IS MORE

While some like to read every single politician’s speech to understand what they are saying, we will break it down for you and give you the vital information.
