CARERS are being offered a free health MoT.

The NHS Health Checks team will be at the Carers coffee morning at the Carers Centre, Orchard Road, Southsea on September 6 from 10am to 2pm.

Eligible carers aged between 40 and 74 who do not have a pre-existing condition will also be offered a voucher for a free full NHS Health Check.

Health trainers will also be available to offer advice and support on how to live a healthier lifestyle, such as quitting smoking or losing weight.

Amanda McKenzie, health checks service manager at Portsmouth City Council, said: ‘Carers may often disregard their own health because they’re so busy looking after someone else.

‘We think it’s important to help them to take care of themselves and the coffee morning will provide a welcome retreat for carers where they can relax and chat with people in the same boat and get support and advice if needed.

‘The mini health check takes around 15 minutes and we can do it then and there. After the health check, carers will take home personalised advice of what they can do to live a healthier lifestyle.’
