Foster carer Nicola Dore is appealing for help in Malawi after devastating floods hit last week.
Along with her daughter Molly, Nicola from Gosport has raised money and encouraged people to donate directly to the charity Friends of Mulanje Orphans (Fomo), which is also supporting the people in need.
The 36-year-old says: ‘They are just so vulnerable and needy out there. Myself and others wanted to help after we found out through Fomo’s founder that the awful floods had hit.
‘I made a Facebook page to let friends and family know what supplies were needed and how they could donate.’
Nicola is currently using her home and a toddler group as a drop-off point for anyone wanting to donate supplies.
She adds: ‘I’ve organised a sponsored assault course and cake sale through the toddler and baby group I run. People can take this opportunity to bring down any more donations.’
Also collected is perishable food, which Nicola has managed to arrange to be taken up to Fomo’s head office in Preston so it can be shipped to Malawi as soon as possible.
Nicola says: ‘It’s the worst floods they’ve ever experienced. More than 200,000 people have been displaced, villages washed away, and over 200 lives lost. We’re just glad that we are able to try and help.
