MUSIC from Russia and Eastern Europe will fill a church at a fundraising concert.

A quartet of musicians, called Balalaika, will be playing prima balalaika, a three-stringed instrument from Russia, bayan, a form of Russian button accordion, and guitars at St Mary’s Church in Portchester Castle.

Sir Michael Moore, the organiser, said he was pleased to secure this band.

He said: ‘It is just the job to drive away the Autumn blues.

‘Together they offer the power and fascination of an evening of foot-tapping village dances, haunting melodies, frenetic gypsy dances and waltzes and tangos from old Russia.’

The proceeds will go to The Rainbow Centre in Fareham, which supports children with cerebral palsy and adults with MS, Parkinson’s, cerebral palsy and those recovering from a stroke or head injury.

The concert starts at 7.30pm on Friday, September 19.

Tickets cost £8.50, concessions £5.50. Call Michael Moore on (023) 9237 8750.
