North End woman to run Great South Run for cancer sufferers

The 30-year-old, from North End, is taking on the 10-mile race to raise money for the young people she works with in her role as the Teenage Cancer Trust youth support co-ordinator at Southampton General Hospital.

She is now calling on others to join her.

Leonie said: ‘No one can ever comprehend what going through cancer is like for a young person and their family.

‘It can affect them emotionally, socially and physically.

‘The struggles that they have to face on a daily basis are sometimes unimaginable, so I felt inspired to push myself out of my comfort zone and take on my first ever fundraising challenge, raising the vital funds needed to support them.’

Leonie, who has worked on the specialist Teenage Cancer Trust unit for two years, has chosen to take on the challenge for the charity after being inspired and encouraged by the young people she supports.

The Great South Run is in Southsea on Sunday, October 23.
