Old youth club to be revitalised with refurb

An OLD youth club in Somers Town is being brought back to life by a major revamp.

The Brook Club, in Sackville Street, will be given a new layout and facilities, including new kitchens and toilets.

New windows, doors, a complete rewire and updated fire alarm system will also be installed so it can be used by the scouts, guides and Air training corps reserves.

The work is set to be completed by May.

Cllr Steve Wemyss,
Portsmouth City Council’s cabinet member for housing, said: ‘This is a great opportunity to bring an important community building back to life.

‘The Brook Club has been empty since the youth club moved into new facilities in the iconic Somerstown Central building across Winston Churchill Avenue.

‘This is another good example of how the council can use its existing assets for the benefit of the community and how this council is trying to ensure there is a range of activities for young people in the heart of our city.’
